We are delighted to be onboard Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Williams Commerce is thrilled to have onboarded Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew), for a new website development project and as a business-as-usual (BAU) digital retainer client.

RBG Kew is a world-famous botanic garden in south-west London, and an internationally recognised centre for botanical research and education. It runs an online store, giving visitors the chance to buy gifts and merchandise that celebrate everything this important institution represents.

We have previously completed a server migration project with the organisation, overseeing a move to Microsoft Azure for hosting, after being appointed via an open tender process. This saw our team collaborate with IT staff at RBG Kew, adapting to an atypical setup and overcoming compliance challenges to successfully migrate the online shop to Azure hosting.

Having successfully completed this project, we entered an open procurement process with RBG Kew for a new set of works. We were delighted to be selected by the brand to deliver a multi-faceted project, covering onboarding, a BAU support retainer, and a redevelopment project.

“It’s wonderful to be able to work with an organisation such as RBG Kew and support their ecommerce goals moving forward. We have some exciting projects on the horizon with this client and our team are now working hard to deliver what RBG Kew needs in order to take their online shop to a new level.”

At present, the Kew online shop runs on the Magento 2 Open Source platform. As part of the new ecommerce redevelopment project, our plans include migrating this website to Adobe Commerce Cloud. Hosting will also move to the Adobe Commerce Cloud platform.

The redevelopment project is a major piece of work and marks the most complex project Williams Commerce has done to date, with several complex elements involved.

There will be three releases over the course of the project, which will span more than 24 months. There will also be a number of groundbreaking elements, including a single basket experience to help enhance the user journey and UX.

The BAU support retainer will see us provide RBG Kew with hosting and infrastructure services, support and maintenance, and monitoring and incident reporting work on a monthly basis.

This will allow us to provide ongoing support to the online shop team, helping them to meet customer expectations and maintain a strong digital revenue stream for the organisation.

Additional aspects of the ongoing BAU retainer include development work and account management services.
